Stand with Our Farmers—Here’s How You Can Help This Week!

There has been a coordinated effort by powerful corporations and lobbyists in Raleigh to undermine hardworking North Carolinians who provide herd shares and raw pet milk. Unfortunately, some of the opposition has come from surprising places — including the NC Farm Bureau and even the NC Department of Agriculture.

The latest version of this year’s Farm Bill has passed the Senate and is now being reviewed by the House Rules Committee. While some progress has been made — including the removal of misleading raw milk safety study language — the bill still includes concerning provisions, such as de facto immunity that could shield chemical companies from accountability to farmers and consumers.

Last week, the NC House Agriculture and Environment Committee unexpectedly stripped the contents of SB401 (originally a driver’s license bill) and replaced it with the current Farm Bill language. The meeting was abruptly adjourned after the bill was pulled, but it is scheduled to be heard again Tuesday morning. It was a contentious meeting with firm presentations by Rep. Jimmy Dixon (R - District 4).

As of now, the harmful language banning herd shares and raw pet milk has been removed — a positive development — but it could be added back in through last-minute amendments. We are monitoring the situation closely and encourage you to stay alert.

Now is the time to raise your voice.

If you believe in the right to access local, healthy food — including raw pet milk and herd shares — speak up. Contact your representatives and make it known that North Carolina families deserve food freedom and transparency.
